Tis The Season Report

Spring into fishing (March, April, and May):

What`s the weather like?

We start shedding some of our winter gear mid-March. But, with the temperature changes, wind begins to be our biggest adversary. Look for cool mornings and very enjoyable evenings. Humidity is minimal and the clear visibility is still similar to the winter months making for beautiful views.

How`s the fishing?

Inshore fishing starts heating back up. Look for trout, redfish, and flounder to start moving back into the sound. Sheepshead can also be found on the inshore gas platforms.

Nearshore Trips are probably the best around this time of year. The Sheepshead spawn kicks off a frenzy of action around the nearshore gas rigs. These are action packed trips, that require limited boat riding to the locations.

Offshore Trips are a mixed bag of possibilities. Fish can always be caught on an offshore trip if weather allows. For what fish that can be harvested is based on what seasons are open and the trip lengths that customers are wanting to do. Of course, longer trips should net more fish caught based on time spent on the water, but it also opens the ability to travel to deeper water for fish not found closer to shore. Bottom Fishing/Reef Fishing is a year-round event, and most reef fish can be found no matter the time of year. Tuna can be found a little closer, but still require longer trips that 6 or 8hrs will not allow. Look for fish like Mahi and Cobia to start showing up in the later weeks of spring.
